Managing Dataset Tags

You can use tags to organize, search, and filter input datasets.

Tags are system-wide metadata values that can help you organize and locate input datasets in projects that include a large number of datasets.

Curators and admins can create, edit, and delete tags, and add them to and remove them from the datasets they can access. Dataset tags are visible to all users and can be used as a filter.

Tip: Tags cannot be used to transform values in a unified dataset. To add metadata that you can use in transformations to an input dataset or its attributes, see Using Metadata in Transformations.

Creating a Tag

Tags are available system-wide, so their names must be unique across all projects.

To create a tag:

  1. Open a mastering, categorization, or schema mapping project.
  2. On the project’s Datasets page, select a dataset.
  3. Select Tag > Manage. The Manage Tags dialog box opens.
  4. To add a tag, choose Create new tag and enter a unique name that contains only lower-case alphanumeric characters, underscores (_), and hyphens (-).
  5. Select Save > Done.

Adding a Tag to a Dataset

To add a tag to a dataset:

  1. Open a mastering, categorization, or schema mapping project.
  2. On the project’s Datasets page, select the checkbox for one or more datasets.
  3. Select Tag and then select the checkbox for one or more tags.

Removing a Tag from a Dataset

To remove a tag from a dataset:

  1. Open a mastering, categorization, or schema mapping project.
  2. On the project’s Datasets page, select the checkbox for one or more datasets.
  3. Select Tag and then clear the checkbox for the tag you want to remove.

Editing or Deleting a Tag

Note: Tags are available system-wide, so editing or deleting a tag affects all projects.

To edit a tag:

  1. On the project’s Datasets page, select a dataset.
  2. Select Tag > Manage. The Manage Tags dialog box opens.
  3. Locate the tag you want to edit, and then move your cursor over the right edge of the tag's row.
  4. To edit a tag's name, choose Edit edit icon and enter a unique name that contains only lower-case alphanumeric characters, underscores (_), and hyphens (-).
  5. Select Save.

To delete a tag:

  1. On the project’s Datasets page, select a dataset.
  2. Select Tag > Manage. The Manage Tags dialog box opens.
  3. Locate the tag you want to delete, and then move your cursor over the right edge of the tag's row.
  4. To delete a tag, choose Delete trash icon and then confirm.
  5. Select Done.
